Masters of Mystery, ed. Martin Radcliffe
Jan. 12th, 2005 02:02 pmI'm remembering why I don't normally read collections of short stories: if I read them all in one go (which I do if it's a library book) it all gets rather confusing. Rather like a beer festival: on the first couple you can make interested comments about hoppiness and whether you'd prefer it as a summer ale, but critical attention tends to deteriorate throughout the evening, and by the following morning you can't remember what you drank except that some of it was probably quite good. I don't mean to emphasise the drunkenness (not that I have got more than rather tipsy at a beer festival, come to think of it - I take too much time deciding what to drink), but that I get overwhelmed with the huge selection of names and tastes, meaning that I can never remember what I chose, let alone what it was that I liked.
