All I want for Christmas
Nov. 22nd, 2007 01:26 pmIt's that time of year when relatives start asking pointed questions about what I want for Christmas, and I flail about in panic trying to think of something suitable. No-one who buys me presents is terribly keen on buying me what someone referred to last year as Weird Fantasy Books (which seems to include the majority of my Amazon wishlist), and my tastes are not similar enough to my relatives' to be able to ask for something vague like 'clothes' or 'pictures for the house'.
So, if anyone has any books, DVDs, games, decorative objects, gadgets (or, frankly, anything that can be gift-wrapped) to recommend, now would be an excellent time to do it.
I did think of asking for a gardening book but most of the ones I've seen are either information-light TV tie-ins or are more about planning a garden than anything else. What I want is something that answers questions like: "I've got an enormous buddleia that is attempting to take over the shed. What do I do about it, and when?", "It's November: what should I be doing?", "What sort of vegetables can be planted where?", and generally how to look after and improve an existing garden instead of assuming that everyone moves into a sort of lawned desert. Any suggestions?
What are you planning to buy your nearest and dearest? What would you like to be given?
