One Foggy Christmas Eve
Dec. 17th, 2008 09:47 amYesterday evening there was a knock at my door. Puzzled, as I wasn't expecting anyone, I opened the door to find four children looking up at me. Two girls and two boys, aged about 8-10ish. There was a brief pause while they nudged each other and shuffled, then they burst into song. They sang me the whole of 'Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer', with the boys adding the spoken bits in brackets at the ends of some of the lines*. When they'd finished, I thanked them and asked whether they were collecting for anything. They weren't. I said I was sorry that I'd just finished the last mince pie, or I'd have offered them some. They said that was OK, and grinned at me. One of them told me that someone further up the road had given them some chocolate coins, but she wasn't telling me with any expectation that I'd follow suit. They were just enjoying being out together and singing for people.
*I hadn't heard these bits ("...join in any reindeer games (like Monopoly)") before, but google turns up lots of lyrics which include them, so it's probably just me not paying attention.
In less heart-warming news, I'm feeling rather flattened again today. This is disappointing and frustrating. I thought I was getting better, grrr.
