Experiments in gardening
Mar. 31st, 2008 05:26 pmMaybe if I just write a few sentences now and then I can get over this journalling-block thing. Somehow writing stuff feels more like not doing whatever it is I'm meant to be doing than reading does.
Anyway, gardening things done yesterday:
Refilled seed feeder under blue cedar.
Repotted almost-dead pieris in new and bigger container, to see if it revives.
Mowed lawn for the first time this year.
Stirred the compost heap.
Pulled out lots of ground elder (discovered a couple of weeks ago, curses).
Sowed a pot of mint and a pot of basil, outside.
Sowed free Gardener's World tomato and chilli seeds, inside.
Sowed some dusky cranesbill seeds, inside.
Moved the pots out from the huddle by the back wall into attractive locations on the patio.
Admired the new leaves on the rose bushes, including the tiny buds on the rose I thought was dead.
Tried to guess what would come up next. I think that some of the unidentified unflowered bulbs are tulips - others remain mysterious.
Checked that slugs hadn't eaten the tips of the hosta that's just poking up above the gravel in its pot.
Spotted one bud on the magnolia just starting to unfurl.
