I'm sure you've seen it before: if you'd like me to ask you five questions, let me know in the comments to this post.

1. What do you do for a living?
I'm a software developer, even though (a)I am female, and (b)I have a BA in English Literature, either of which make me pretty unusual in my areas of the companies I've worked for.

2. Who do you live with and why?
Interesting question: I haven't really talked about other people in my life on this journal, and I think I'd like to keep it that way. It's not really what I want to use the journal for, and in any case it feels rather like talking about someone behind their back.

Alternative answer: two cats, Cleo and Kipper. I like having pets that don't have to be kept in small enclosures, and cats are pretty much ideal for me (that is, I don't define myself as 'a cat person': I've never seen the need to like cats more than dogs, rabbits etc.). They're both from the local Cats Protection League; Cleo was chosen first - they'd had difficulty finding a home for her as she's a semi-longhaired black cat (this is apparently not a popular colour, which was news to me) and very wary of people - and Kipper was chosen as a kitten small enough and bold enough to encourage Cleo to explore things without intimidating her. They're also both pretty cute.

3. What's your superpower?
I'm not sure. Does it have to be a real one? I'm now trying to think of something unusual I'm consistently good at but I'm drawing a blank. People who have seen me cook might think that my superpower is something to do with the distribution of food across as many surfaces as possible. If I could choose one ... well, flight would be pretty cool, or knowing how to cheer people up, or something along the lines of producing minor felicities.

4. You're at the best used-book store in the world. What section do you examine first? What do you look for there?
That would depend on how much time I had, and which was nearest the door! All things being equal, I'd probably go for the SF/fantasy section first, as it's usually one of the smaller and more well-defined sections and is probably most likely to contain something I've been looking out for that is not in the usual high-street shops. If the layout of the shop makes it sensible, I tend to look at SF&F, then Crime (briefly, for a few specific books), General fiction, History, Biography, Poetry, then other sections. I'd look at every section if I had the time, though.

5. Do you ever fake it? Why or why not?
Erk. Is this a question I want to answer in public? Taking 'it' to mean 'emotional reactions in general', I don't fake negative emotions - If I look upset, I am upset, and unless I know you very well, probably a lot more upset than I look. I do try not to hurt people's feelings (for example, over the matter of unwanted gifts or awkward invitations), so I may try to seem happier or more enthusiastic than I am actually feeling, but I think that's just basic politeness.

Given that I'm avoiding cows' milk but will otherwise eat just about anything, what would you feed me if you'd invited me to dinner?

What topics of general conversation will make you become suddenly angry or passionate?

What did you enjoy about being at the University of York?

'Horology' is listed as one of your interests: why? What attracts you to it?

Chaucer/Langland/Other (please specify)?
